Uninterrupted is our new series that features interviews, videos, and events — virtual and in-person — celebrating our extraordinary alumni artists, their achievements, and their role in the nation’s arts and letters.
Next up: Mark your calendar for a virtual conversation between writer Judith Freeman and photographer Tina Barney on March 10. Friends for four decades, Judith and Tina will discuss female friendship, a theme in Judith’s recently published novel, MacArthur Park. To enhance your enjoyment of the event, we suggest you pick up a copy of the novel in advance from your local independent bookstore or Bookshop.org.
Then, tune into Judith and Tina’s conversation on March 10 at 5 p.m. PST, 6 p.m. MST, and 8 p.m. EST on Facebook Live (follow Ucross here) or Zoom (register online here).
Long-time friends Judith Freeman & Barbara Feldon discuss their newest books, novel MACARTHUR PARK and memoir GETTING SMARTER.

Her memoir Getting Smarter relates her dramatic and sometimes zany adventures with a glamorous Frenchman, her initiation into show business, and the fun of working in Hollywood.
Judith Freeman is a novelist and non-fiction writer whose most recent novel, “MacArthur Park,” is set in Los Angeles and the rural West. A recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship in fiction, her articles and reviews have appeared in many publications.

In preparation for our upcoming Author’s Luncheon, Book Club will discuss Judith Freeman’s books this Thursday. Everyone is welcome, even if you haven’t read her books. Feel free to bring a beverage and/or nibbles to share.
Author Judith Freeman of Fairfield, Idaho and Los Angeles is a beautiful crafter of words, a fierce thinker and critic, and a keen observer of the human condition. She has received accolades for all her books: five novels, a memoir, a collection of short stories, and a non-fiction book about Raymond Chandler. We can’t wait to hear her speak and read at the Twelfth Annual Stanley Library Author’s Luncheon on September 10, and we hope you will join us!
The Stanley Supper Club will serve a delicious selection of Mediterranean-style kebabs, flatbread, salads, and dessert. Tickets are $35 and must be purchased in advance at the library (or by phone, 208-774-2470, or email).
In an interview with the Los Angeles Review of Books, Judith said: “The artist and writer exist to chronicle a moment in time, to afford the sense of beauty and wonder that allows hope, and to call us to account for our moral and ethical shortcomings.”
We appreciate Stanley Town Square for sponsoring the luncheon.
